    • Site selection — Proper site selection is important for minimizing postoperative complications and for achieving a good quality of life
–The ostomy should lie on either side of the abdominal midline, just lateral and inferior to the umbilicus. Often, a site is selected that overlays the rectus abdominis muscle, which can provide additional support and stability for the stoma. –The patient must be able to visualize the stoma and access it without difficulty –The ostomy placement must be at least 5 cm from all folds, creases, previous incisions, belt line, umbilicus, and bony.
