Hepatic cirrhosis: Grading of severity according to Child-Turcotte-Pugh
Pugh modified the Child Turcotte classification to obtain an instrument to predict outcome after portosystemic surgery
The grading is based on that originally described by Child
Prolongation of prothrombin is included and the assessment of body nutrition is omitted
Patients with five points have good hepatic function, while patients with 15 points have the poorest hepatic reserve
Allowance is made for patients with primary biliary cirrhosis as their bilirubin levels are usually out of proportion as compared to other liver function tests
