The DeMeester Score for GERD

    • To produce an objective measure of esophageal acid exposure based on 24 hour pH scoring
    • A 24 hour pH score is determined by calculating the number of standard deviation equivalents in each measured value of the six components
    • One starts at a fixed reference point placed two standard deviations below the respective measured mean value in controls
    • This is a commonly used scoring system for acid reflux
