Abstract
Reduction in intestinal blood flow from occlusion, vasospasm, and/or hypoperfusion of the mesenteric vasculature
Intestine is able to compensate for approximately a 75 % acute reduction in mesenteric blood flow for up to 12 hours without substantial injury
Mortality rate - average 71%, with a range of 59%–93%
